The Law Society Library offers a practical collection of publications which aims to meet the information needs of solicitors practising in NSW.

Services & Facilities

Solicitors with current NSW practising certificates may avail themselves of the following Library services and facilities:

  • An 18,000-volume library collection comprising of law reports, practice books, text books and journals.
  • A curated digital collection of key practice books and text books.
  • An easy to navigate library catalogue with 'select and request' functionality.
  • Directional and research assistance from an experienced team of librarians. Click here for associated costs.
  • Postal and DX deliveries to country and suburban solicitors.
  • Quiet study areas when attending the Library.
  • Public access terminals with complimentary access to the internet as well as to a number of online subscription services.
  • Free Wi-Fi.

  • A selection of daily newspapers for reading when attending the Library.

Additional Information

Using the library

Solicitors and their staff, as well as associate members, may attend and use the Library, but only solicitors with current practising certificates may borrow or submit requests for research assistance.

There are few restrictions on what may be borrowed.  Items that are not for loan include:

  • Items designated as reference works
  • Items residing in the Not For Loan collection

Two weeks. The Library sends a courtesy reminder email just prior to the due date and where necessary, just following the due date.  Failure to receive courtesy reminder emails from the Library does not preclude Borrowers from the fines process. Borrowers are responsible for all loans registered against their Borrowers Card, and for their prompt return. 

The Library will not be renewing loans until further notice. After 24 hours all loans are returnable on demand at the request of the librarian.

A fine of $10.00 per item is payable to the Library if after notification an overdue item remains outstanding after a further 3 days. No further material may be borrowed until the fine has been paid to the Library and the overdue material returned.

Material obtained on inter-library loan from another library must be used in the Society's Library. Any fees charged by the lending library are the responsibility of the requestor.

The use of mobile telephones for phone calls of photographs, smoking, drinking, eating or loud and unnecessary conversation or noise is not permitted in the Library.
