The legal profession is notorious for being a high-pressure industry that requires lawyers to work on matters which can be distressing, traumatic and morally conflicting.

But in a profession where this is an inherent part of people’s roles, and these risks can’t be eliminated, focus needs to shift to establishing protective factors at both a practice and individual level to prevent burnout, vicarious trauma and moral injury.

In this session we provide answers and practical strategies addressing the following questions:

  • What’s the difference between burnout, vicarious trauma and moral injury?
  • Why is the legal profession at a high risk for these mental health and wellbeing challenges?
  • What protective factors can be implemented at a firm level?
  • What tools can individual lawyers utilise to sustain their wellbeing in a high-performance culture?
